J

Our walk today is Tung O Path (From Sham Wat to Tung Chung this time!!)!!!
First get bus no.23 (For Big Buddha) and then get off @ San Hoi Ting. Walk to Sham Wat Road and then walk for another 40 mins downhill.
Then you can see Sham Wat Village.

J

First we went to Sai Tso Wan Village~ a little village being abandoned since the 1970s. The scenes were so beautiful!!

J

Back to Sham Wat village... time for lunch!! At the back is the "entrance" of Nei Sham Stream.

J

There are a number of food stalls run by the villagers of Sham Wat village. Finally we had lunch in stall no.8.

J

Oh, I have got you now!!!!! Fresh star-fruit juice!!!!! The star-fruit were picked from the orchard in the village!
There were citrus fruit (Calamondin, from the orchard also), sweet mung bean soup and bananas!!!

J

The harvest~ star-fruit for squeezing, calamondins are dried under the sun, along the beach~ all grown inside the village!!
Fresh star-fruit juice is very delicious~ highly recommended!! A pity is that, it is not always available, just depends on the weather....

J

@ the seaside~~ villagers often get fish, shrimps and crabs from the sea (We could see they were having a "big" lunch with seafood this afternoon)!! And they seldom go out for the town centre,
they still use firewood instead of gas for cooking.

J

A Buddhist monastery in Sham Wat Village~ Shing Kok Ha Yuen, with a statue of Ksitigarbha Boddhisattva in the garden.
A lovely little Daschund "wrapped" in a thick coat rushed out from the monastery and barked to us.

J

Sham Shek She~ Deity worshipped by the farmers in the old days, for protecting the harvest.
Even now not many people are living here, the old villagers still worship the deity, which is part of their everyday lives.

J

You can still see those old traditions in the villages here!
From top: Deity of Harvest, Tin Tak Saint Bridge (Fairy's bridge!!) and a temple for 3 deities, they are believed to have the power for protecting the villagers from being affected by natural disasters.

J

We could see some hikers cooking and eating @ the riverside (see the cooking utensils on the rocks!!)
There are some abandoned farmland and farm houses @ this place also.

J

We could see some old pig houses when going to Tung Chung....

J

As the construction of a new airport runway and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge at this place, it will badly damage the environment of Sha Lo Wan.
The villagers are very disappointed and they have hanged banners everywhere along the seaside.

J

A banner "Airport Authority~ A Liar" is attached to the Sha Lo Wan playground, inside Sha Lo Wan village.

J

A little food stall in Sha Lo Wan village, with delicious grilled sweet potatoes!!!

J

Beautiful stream

J

A look-out point @ Hau Hok Wan, opposite to the airport runway.
We stopped for a while to watch the planes taking off.

J

The seaside of Hau Hok Wan... then we were running inside the "dark forest".

J

A typical Hakka village~ San Tau Village, with places for storing firewood.

J

From top: village public stove, old village school, old village house and a colourful ancestor hall.

J

Back to Tung Chung bay, beautiful village house && nature scenes = 100% satisfaction!!
It's the end of the Tung O path walk, we had spent 4 hours for this 13km walk.
