They were used to warn pilots that there are obstacles / peaks nearby, during the time when Kai Tak Airport was still in use.
紅燈山的頂部, 紅燈已經被拆走, 只剩下石頭, 是舊機場年代, 用來提醒機師勿撞山.

The red light was removed and you can only see rocks around.
During the time when Kai Tak Airport was in use, the red light was used to warn pilots, similar to the red & white checks painted on Checkerboard Hill @ Lok Fu.
